  On my first appointment, I discussed my medical condition with my physical therapist. She did not seem to know nothing about it even though my Surgeon sent to ATI a referral with instructions to treat me and detailed my Major spine surgery just 4 weeks before. I have back surgery, Microdiscectomy ,L5-S1. My physical therapy was working on my spine , pushing down hard with both hands attempting to stretch my back. I thought she would not push on my lower back where is the herniated disc & scar from surgery was, but she did to my surprise and shock. I yelled so that the entire room stood still and everyone stared at me because the pain was so intense . Then she did deep tissue massage in the effected area, lower back and upper sciatic nerve. Monday night I was in a lot of pain, I thought it was normal. The next day I wake up feeling as much pain as I felt before my surgery and I have been in severe pain since then. I barely can get in and out of bed ! I'm in constant pain. Prior Monday I was feeling a lot better minimal pain and I was able to move and walk almost with no problem. I'm so upset, I have been in pain for several months and I was very pleased with my recovery. I never thought physical therapy could do this to me. I trusted in the professional physical therapies from ATI. I spoke with my surgeon , he is hoping that she just aggravated my nerve and hopefully she did not re injure my herniated disc or make me get surgery again due to this reckless massage therapy could of caused another herniated disc. My surgeon prescribed more pain medicine, muscle relaxers and steroids. Prior Monday I was taking pain medicine only in the morning , I did not needed muscle relaxers or steroids. Now I'm back taking pain medicine every 4 hours to help with the pain. I felt this is due to ATI does not hire professional able to treat some one with back surgery . The second day of therapy after waiting 20 to been seen a technician wanted me to write a bike ( because my physical therapist was not ready for me). I told him I was not able to do that due to my back issues. I never received one on one treatment except when my therapy sit with me to talk about my medical conditions. I also felt their was no "personal" plan to treat me and my specific injury and they were trying to figure out day by day. While been treated I felt my physical therapist was more interested in talking with co workers that my treatment. Felt like a hair salan environment not a medical facility. Per now my surgeon recommendation I'm to stop physical therapy. I will follow up with him next week & if my pain and mobility has not improved, he will request an MRI. I'm hoping this has not major consequences.
